Richard A. Greenberg specializes in white-collar criminal defense, appellate litigation, securities regulation and professional discipline. He began the practice of law as a staff attorney at the Criminal Appeals Bureau and the Federal Defender Appeals Unit of the Legal Aid Society of New York City (1972 to 1977), and was counsel to the Committee on Codes of the New York Assembly (1980 to 1981). For the past twenty years, Mr. Greenberg has been the Editor-in-Chief and a Principal Author of New York Criminal Law, the leading treatise on the substantive criminal law of New York. He has also written for professional journals and has lectured to the profession on criminal law issues and appellate advocacy. Among his many professional associations, he has been co-chair of the Amicus Committee of the New York Council of Defense Lawyers, and a member of the Committee on Appellate Practice of the Criminal Justice Section of the New York State Bar Association. Highly regarded by his peers, Mr. Greenberg has received an AV Preeminent rating from Martindale-Hubbell, and has been designated a “Super Lawyer” every year since 2006. Mr. Greenberg graduated from Oberlin College (B.A. 1966) and New York University School of Law (J.D. 1969) where he was awarded an Arthur Garfield Hays Civil Liberties Fellowship.
